Candice's Cry for Help
True Story
On September 9, 2022, at approximately 4:45 a.m. near 9th Ave and Buckeye Rd, Candice (41) desperately waved down a passing vehicle and asked the driver to call 911. She had visible injuries to her face, and her abuser was actively chasing her.
As the driver stopped to help, another vehicle swerved to avoid the scene but sideswiped the stopped car, causing it to strike Candice. She was rushed to the hospital, where she later passed away from the injuries sustained in the impact.
This tragic incident occurred directly in front of Beyond the Hurt. Candice’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of the urgent need to raise awareness about domestic violence and support those trying to escape it.
On March 14, 2026, Beyond the Hurt launched our new program, Candice’s Cry for Help. This initiative is dedicated to providing safe transportation for victims of domestic violence, helping them reach secure locations during moments of crisis.
To bring this program fully to life, we are actively raising funds to purchase a transit vehicle. Thanks to the generosity of our community, our fundraiser on March 14 raised $24,000 toward our goal of $60,000.
